Geography is currently the only science
capable of integrating natural and human sciences
in the knowledge of our natural environment
and of the Earth's surface in general.

The conference is dedicated to the memory of an outstanding Russian geographer and hydrologist, Corresponding Member of RAS, Alexander Nikolaevich Antipov (1949-2009), the former director of V.B. Sochava Institute of Geography SB RAS, who made a significant contribution to landscape hydrology and landscape planning.
A.N. Antipov comprehensively developed further and enriched V.G. Glushkov's and A.I. Subbotin's geographical-hydrological developments with the ideas concerning the landscape-hydrological organization of a territory, with the substantiation of the hydrological functions of landscapes, and with principles of basin management thus creating the Siberian scientific school of landscape hydrology.
A.N. Antipov is the founder of the Russian school of landscape planning, with its practical implementation in projects of territorial development of regions of the Russian Federation and countries of the South Caucasus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
A.N. Antipov was in charge of the development of the concept implying an ecological accompaniment of large economic projects which was implemented in various regions of Asian Russia and, more specifically, during development of the Kovykta gas condensate field in Irkutsk oblast, and during the construction the "East Siberia - Pacific Ocean oil pipeline"; the Atlas entitled "Irkutsk Region: Ecological Conditions of Development" was prepared and published; it has no parallel in atlas mapping at the regional level; a number of other large cartographic products were created, and the principles of theoretical and methodological modernization of geographical science were developed with a focus on the creation of the system of geographical and ecological assessments of a territory.
The conference will highlight the main stages and results of A.N. Antipov's scientific activity and present a further development of his ideas in the light of the current directions of geography and ecological nature management.
It is proposed to consider at the conference the present status and the main problems of landscape hydrology; integral and interdisciplinary approaches to the study of the natural and socio-economic environment, and the principles and methods of minimizing the negative anthropogenic impact on geosystems. The conference will provide panel discussions on the exchange of experience and discussions on prospects (putting forward new ideas) of territorial-planning application missions and mechanisms for the ecological substantiation of territorial development and economic activities. Within the framework of the session meetings and round tables, it is intended to discuss the tendencies and prospects of a further development of territorial planning in Russia, and the approaches and methods of natural-resource management under climate change and anthropogenic load.
